Our Patriots didn’t make it to the Super Bowl, but it doesn’t mean we can’t participate in the festivities on game day. To many, it’s all about the game, but to others it’s all about the food (and halftime). I pledge allegiance to latter camp. I have been working on a new wing recipe for the special occasion. These beer glazed wings are crispy and finger licking good. My guinea pigs…I mean family…has given them a firm stamp of approval.

Whether or not you agree who deserves the title, Seahawks or Broncos (thanks Google for the info! But if it’s not the Pats, does it really matter?), you will agree these wings are great party food. Serve them up Super Bowl Sunday on February 2nd (once again, thanks Google). The recipe can easily be multiplied, so be sure to have enough on hand!

HONEY BEER GLAZED WINGS

If you are not into football or game day, make these awesome wings any day you want. It's a crowd-pleasing appetizer that is not to be missed! Try this out and enjoy!!

HONEY BEER GLAZED WINGS

HONEY BEER GLAZED WINGS

INGREDIENTS:

3 lbs. chicken drumettes
1/2 rounded tsp. salt
1/2 rounded tsp. black pepper
1 cup honey beer (I use Honey Brown)
1/3 cup honey
1/3 cup chopped onions
1 rounded tbsp. cornstarch
2 tbsp. + 1 tsp. soy sauce
1/8 tsp. black pepper
1 tsp. olive oil
1/8 cup chopped salted peanuts
1 tbsp. chopped parsley

INSTRUCTIONS:

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

Pat drumettes dry with paper towels. Season with 1/2 rounded teaspoons of salt and pepper.  Grease one large or two small baking pans. Place drumettes, skin side down on pans. Allow space between each piece. Overcrowding may produce too much liquid during baking. Bake on lower half of oven for 30 minutes. Drain any excess liquid. Move baking sheet(s) to top half of oven. Bake for 20 additional minutes.

Whisk cornstarch and beer in a small mixing bowl. Some foaming will occur. Set aside. Place a small saucepan on medium heat. Add oil and onion. Cook for 1 minute. Increase heat to medium high. Cook, stirring constantly until liquid boils and thickens slightly. Add soy sauce, honey, and 1/8 black pepper. Stir until sauce is thick and smooth, another minute or so. If needed, adjust seasoning to taste; add soy sauce for more saltiness, honey for more sweetness.

Place drumettes into a large mixing bowl. Pour glaze onto wings and mix. Garnish with peanuts and parsley. Plate and serve.

Note: Although I haven’t done it, if you would like less pronounced taste of beer, I would suggest replacing some of it with chicken broth.

  2. I have to admit that I'm a fair weather fan when it comes to sports and pay attention when the hometown teams are in the playoffs or Superbowl. So, if I'm going to watch a game, its going to have to be worth my while...with good eats! Hope you 'll like the wings! Thanks for stopping by!
